FAQ

How might Qigong benefit health and wellbeing?

How might Qigong benefit your health and wellbeing?
Understanding what makes us ill or healthy is the norm for QiGong practitioners.  All we can ask for is to be at a place of choice and have the self love to make healthy decisions - it sounds simple, but it frequently is not.  A QiGong practitioner is not a victim, rather, they train the ability to see the inter-connectedness in all things and take responsibility for their own outcomes.

On a more physical level, practicing Qigong or receiving Qigong Healing stimulates the organs, glands, acupuncture points, meridians, brain and much more. Furthermore, volumes have been written on the calming effects meditation has on the mind; the benefits of this can change the way a person views their life for the better.

What is QiGong exercise?
Any practice where one focuses on moving energy with their mind, breath or dynamic movement.

What is the difference between Tai Chi and QiGong?
Tai Chi is often called Tai Chi QiGong.  Tai Chi is simply a moving (dynamic) form of QiGong.

How do you practice qigong?
It depends on which kind of QiGong you start with.  Many start with Dynamic (moving) QiGong like Tai Chi or Bagua forms.  As long as they attach the thoughts to each movement, it is QiGong.
If the practitioner starts with seated QiGong, the daily “practice” will be centered around the formula they are mastering at the moment.

What are QiGong exercises?
QiGong exercises covers all forms of dynamic, standing or seated practices.  The term QiGong Exercises simply refers to a the daily routine an individual adopts as they master each step of their particular QiGong form.

What is Chi meditation?
Chi meditation is any thought formula that incorporates a conscious moving, clearing or transformation of energy

Where can you experience Medical Qigong?

Medical QiGong is a burgeoning area for many health practitioners and there are a growing number of educators around the world. Search on line (or by asking friends) for a practitioner that is certified through a respected system or master.  Medical Qigong training, like we find in Master Mantak Chia’s Universal Healing Tao system, requires discipline, years of training, clinical hours and personal dedication.  Look for a teacher who emulates qualities you respect and aspire to attaining.  Medical Qigong requires not only physical shifts and awareness but the emotional as well. Your teacher should be someone that you respect, understand and feel comfortable with.

What do Qigong Healers do?

Qigong healers train the ability to move the forces of nature through another to facilitate clearing and healing.  They also train the ability to recognize specific emotional patterns that may be hindering or harming their patient.  Each healer has their own techniques for transforming negative situations and may teach them to the patient so they may continue the healing process on their own.
There are a few popular modalities QiGong Healers use:

  • Energetic massage: massage that employs mindfulness to remove the energy that caused a physical blockage.
  • Tools: Wood, metal or stone objects can be used to identify areas of stuck Qi so the healer and the patient may work together to melt the hardened tissue back to a supple state.
  • Sharing Energy: The Healer uses their mind to guide energy (forces of nature, not their own) to the patients body to remove energy blockages.
  • Distance Healing: This is the same as Sharing Energy but distance has no relevancy.  These healers can work on any person who gives them permission from anywhere in the world.

In order to be a truly effective QiGong Healer, the practitioner does need to maintain a high level of personal health through their own cultivated QiGong practice. Therefore, most Healers practice continue their education in  Self-Healing QiGong and use it as a way of life.

More about Qigong techniques

There are two types of Qigong practice:

  • Dynamic (moving) QiGong involves physical movement while being mindful of what each movement may achieve.
  • Nei Dan (Seated Meditation) is done in the mind with imagery and visualization.

Tai Chi is a favorite Dynamic QiGong among practitioners as are Five Animal QiGong forms that wring out toxins from the fascia around each organ and muscle.  In Iron Shirt QiGong, there are postures which are held for periods of time to squeeze tendon against bone and bring about greater tendon and muscle strength and Qi. One may also consider Taoist Yoga, Tao Yin, as an excellent start to Dynamic QiGong study.

Sitting meditation focuses the breath, body, and mind through specific formulas of thought.  Practitioners learn that thought waves of possibility may be programmed with specific intentions and facilitate change based on those intentions.

Qigong, particularly Medical QiGong, employs combinations of these practices to promote health issues or maintain health throughout life.  It also helps the individual connect to nature; something many westerners have fallen away from.

Medical Qigong
This is by far the most growing style around the world as it is the most needed.  The techniques allow the practitioner to move molecules to facilitate health on a physical and emotional level.

There are two types of Medical Qigong:

  • Self-Healing Qigong - performed for the self.
  • External Qigong - performed on and for others.

Martial Qigong
Also referred to as the Martial Arts, this Qigong is dynamic and promotes physical ability to protect ones self. Martial Qigong practitioners train the body to perform amazing feats in an effort to condition the body for optimal performance, speed and strength.

What is Qigong?

Let’s break this down.  Qi (also spelled Chi) is a Chinese character that can be translated to either breath or energy.  Gong (also spelled Kung) is a Chinese character that can be translated to either practice or work.  So, it is reasonable to say that QiGong is Energy Work.  Medical QiGong is medicinal energy work and includes:

  • Standing Postures
  • Dynamic Movement
  • Breath Work
  • Meditation (thought formulas that include guided imagery)

Through practice, the Medical QiGong practitioner develops the ability to manipulate molecules to promote health, healing and increase longevity.  Medical QiGong is Quantum Physics in action.

Why does Medical QiGong work?

Medical QiGong allows the body to detoxify, energize and balance itself for optimal health through simple movements or thought processes (formula’s of meditation).  What appears to be metaphor is actually simple physiology - this means, for example, that a smile actually facilitates positive change on a molecular level, for example.  Medical QiGong uses that simple body awareness and chemistry to avoid or heal damage done by self damaging thoughts and behaviors.
Practitioners around the world testify to the permanent benefits of healthy thought and movement.  This has been so for thousands of years and continues to grow in popularity.
